Gaya Gesekan – Percobaan dan Penjelasan

Jika kita melempar sebuah benda pada permukaan tanah, ternyata benda  yang semula bergerak akhirnya berhenti. Perubahan gerak benda tersebut  disebabkan adanya gaya dengan arah berlawanan dan arah gerak benda. Gaya bekerja pada bidang singgung antara permukaan benda dan permukaan tanah. Gaya dinamakan gaya gesekan atau friksi yang diberi lambang dengan “ƒ”. Gaya gesekan timbul karena tidak licinnya permukaan bidang singgung antara dua permukaan benda lain. Karena tidak adanya permukaan benda yang licin sempurna walaupun tampak rata, maka menyebabkan satu permukaan benda sukar meluncur di atas permukaan benda lain. Gesekan bertambah dengan makin besarnya tekanan di kedua permukaan itu. Berarti semakin berat bendanya semakin sulit benda itu meluncur pada permukaan. Untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi gaya gesekan,
lakukan percobaan di bawah ini.

Tentukan berat balok kayu besar dan balok kayu kecil dengan neraca pegas. Rakitlah balok kayu besar, neraca pegas dan papan tripleks seperti gambar di atas. Tariklah neraca pegas pada arah mendatar perlahan-lahan sambil amati keadaan balok kayu besar. Berapakah angka yang ditunjukkan pada neraca pegas? Isikan hasilnya pada tabel.
Gantilah balok kayu besar dengan balok kayu kecil dan ulangi kegiatan di atas. Ulangi kegiatan pada paragraf pertama, namun letakkan plastik halus di atas papan tripleks. Isikan hasilnya pada tabel. Adapun kolom yang dibuat pada tabel adalah: Jenis balok, Berat (N), Bidang singgung (tripleks, plastik), Angka pada neraca pegas (N). Dari hasil pengamatan yang Anda dapatkan, sebutkan 2 faktor yang mempengaruhi besarnya gaya gesekan antara dua permukaan bidang singgung! Informasi
